City of Franklin - We Believe In Change

We are deeply saddened by the pain and unrest across our country regarding the history of systemic racism and discrimination against Black people. The City of Franklin believes in change.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice.”

We will stand with people and organizations to ensure underrepresented populations are treated with dignity, respect, and equality.

Mayor Barnett states, “We are all in a position to lead. We must do better and be better.  Talk without action doesn’t create change.  Our city is on a journey to create an environment where everyone feels safe and is treated equally.”

Being better starts with listening more and developing an action plan created in collaboration with our growing diverse population. Studies show business, education, civic, and religious entities all grow with a more diverse populous working hand-in-hand to benefit ALL.

The City met with a group of community members to have open dialogue regarding steps the City can take to create a more inclusive environment for people to live, work, and play. These uncomfortable yet civil dialogues will continue until all African American and people of color of the city of Franklin feel as though their lives matter.

We don’t want the city of Franklin to be on the wrong side of history. When future generations of “Hoosiers” look back at this pivotal moment, we hope they celebrate our collective courage and fortitude to change. United, we can create change, together.

Benjamin Franklin stated, “Justice will not be served until those who unaffected are as outraged as those who are.” Today is our moment to change for a better tomorrow!
