Indiana Handgun Licensing Information

Residents of the City of Franklin must now apply for their handgun license online
NOTE:  Due to an increasing number of ink fingerprints that are rejected by the state because of poor IAFIS quality, effective on Wednesday, October 1st, 2014, the Franklin Police Department will no longer provide ink fingerprints for gun permit applicants. All applicants will be required to obtain inkless fingerprints. Applicants may do so by scheduling an appointment with MorphoTrust USA (formerly L1 Enrollment) @ during the online gun permit application process or after they have completed the application process.  There is an additional fee for obtaining electronic fingerprints.
All City of Franklin applicants need to visit the Franklin Police Department, AFTER completing the online application, to pay local handgun license fees (cash or money order ONLY) within 60 days of the online application.  Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  We are closed Saturday, Sunday and most Federal Holidays.  All applicants must produce a valid driver's license or state ID showing their current address at the time they make payment to our department.
Upon payment of the local fee, applicants will be given a receipt.  All other documentation will be handled electronically.
Upon completion of our background investigation and the Indiana State Police's background investigation, the Indiana State Police will send either a handgun license or letter of denial to the applicant.
