City of Franklin's trick-or-treat hours will be from 5:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. on Halloween night, Monday, October 31, 2016.
Here are some tips to have a fun, SAFE evening:
- Do not trick-or-treat alone.
- Make sure everyone in the group knows to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency, and that they have access to a cell phone.
- Carry flashlights or "glow-sticks." Do not carry any devices with an actual flame such as a candle or torch.
- Children should always have a parent or adult present.
- Cross streets only at intersections and look both ways for traffic.
- Stay in familiar neighborhoods and surroundings.
- Travel in small groups to easily keep track of your party. Do a head count after leaving each house.
- Children should stay on the sidewalk when trick-or-treating.
- Choose costumes with a high degree of visibility in order to be seen by drivers. Reflective tape would be useful in achieving visibility after dusk.
- An adult should inspect all candy before children are allowed to eat it.
- Throw away any candy that is not in an individually wrapped packaged or purchased at a store.
- Candle-lit jack-o-lanterns should be kept away from landings and doorsteps where costumes could brush against the flame.
- Jack-o-lanterns should not be left unattended and extinguished before going to sleep. Use caution and avoid putting a jack-o-lantern next to a flammable object.
