Event Description:

The Johnson County Historical Society presents Dr. Jason S. Lantzer, a local author who will lecture on the history of the Prohibition era on Saturday July 10 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Johnson County Museum of History located in downtown Franklin, Indiana.

A native Hoosier, Dr. Jason Lantzer holds three degrees from Indiana University (BA, MA, PhD), and is an adjunct professor of history at IUPUI and Butler University.  His research interests center on the intersection of politics, religion, and law in both American and Indiana History.  The author of numerous articles and book chapters, his first book "Prohibition is Here to Stay: The Reverend Edward S. Shumaker and the Dry Crusade in America" was published by the University of Notre Dame Press in 2009.

Dr. Lantzer will be discussing Franklin's varied connections to Prohibition, from both the dry campaign that made Shumaker and a young newspaper publisher named Eugene Pulliam famous, connections to Franklin College (and of course, the Willard), to how native son Paul McNutt brought the dry crusade to an end.

Admission to the Johnson County Museum and Dr. Jason Lantzer's lecture is free.
