FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2nd Annual Street Fest Planned for Friday, May 26th, 2006

Franklin, IN - April 20, 2006 - The 2nd Franklin downtown Street Fest will include a classic car cruise-in, Strawberries on the Square, the Lion's Club Fish Fry, the band, The Crawdaddys, will perform live on the courthouse lawn, the movie "Bullitt" at the Artcraft Theatre, and extended shopping and dining hours for downtown merchants.  Plenty of free parking will be available.

Discover Downtown Franklin invites all classic car enthusiasts to bring their classic cars into downtown Franklin on Friday, May 26th.  Parking will be reserved on North Main Street across from the Artcraft Theatre, East Court Street, West Court Street, and in the parking lot on the south side of the Courthouse Square.  Reserved parking begins at 5:00 p.m.

Franklin Heritage will be showing "Bullitt" at the Artcraft Theatre at 7:30 p.m.  Steve McQueen plays the role of a no glitter, all guts cop named Frank Bullitt. He and two other cops are assigned to what seems like a normal case: to watch a witness for 48 hours before he goes to trial on Monday. When the officers and the witness are killed, Chalmers gets angry at Bullitt. After he chases the hitman that killed them, he vows to catch him, and the mafia boss that hired him.  For more information or to purchase tickets in advance contact Franklin Heritage at (317) 736-6823.

Craig Wells, President of Discover Downtown Franklin said, "Strawberries on the Square will be held on the Courthouse Lawn starting at 11:00 a.m. until we sell out."  Volunteers will serve shortcake, ice cream, fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a bottle of water for $5.00.  "This Discover Downtown Franklin fundraiser will help pay for the 4th Friday Summer Concert Series, which will be held on the 4th Friday of the month, June through September," said Krista Linke, Vice-President.

The Lion's Club Fish Fry will be held Friday and Saturday, May 26th and 27th, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the public parking lot at the corner of Water Street and East Monroe Street.  The Lion's Club has been having fish fry's since the club was chartered in 1945.  Proceeds from these events benefit several groups throughout the community including: mini-grants to all First Grade classes in Franklin, High School Scholarships, vision screenings, Inter-Church Food Pantry, Johnson County Good Cheer Fund, the Boy's and Girls Club, and many more.

The Crawdaddys will perform on stage on the Courthouse Square from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The Crawdaddys primarily play around the central Indiana area.  They cover mainstream artists such as Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty and Alan Jackson, as well as playing their own original music.  You'll have a good time with the Crawdaddys!  This event is open to the public and seating is available on a first come, first serve basis.  It is recommended that the public bring their own lawn chairs or blanket.

"Take advantage of extended downtown merchant business hours and make plans to have dinner downtown Franklin and do some shopping as you browse the impressive number of classic-cars on display," said Buzz Bay, Promotions Committee Chairman.
